Billet Specialties VTrac - April 07

In preparation for air-con and power steering, I knew I had to add and change the existing pulley setup which drives the alternator and water pump.

Original Pulleys

I did a lot of research on the net as well as look at other setups in different cars.  I liked the idea of the serpentine systems but they ended up being too expensive (BS Tru Trac and Vintage Air front runner) or not containing the right compressor I wanted (GM Performance Serpentine).

I also looked at the piecemeal approach buying all the bits and hoping they were all compatible...

In the end after much thought I went the Billet Specialties V-Trac system which is a two belt system.  It comes with everything, AC compressor, alternator, water pump, power steering pump

It cost about $2,300 which is not that much more expensive than purchasing the individual components.

Aside from all the quality gear you get what you save on is the headache and installation time to put it all in.  I installed the whole lot in about 2 to 3  hours, and I'm slow!  The power steering pump was still to go on at this shot.

You might notice my engine bay is not that great looking! The Billet Specialities bling looks a bit out of place but the plan is to work out the design of the engine bay, plumbing, AC, power steering etc and then rip it all out, weld/fix the holes and paint it all purple.

Since I've put this system it's amazing how many people I've shown it to now want to get one.  One advantage of this system is you don't need any special bolt holes in your heads as it all attaches using the water pump bolts.

The only hassle was having to buy the BS power steering remote reservoir to accomodate the hose hookup for the Saginaw power steering pump.
